Digital Desk: The holy city of Haridwar in Uttarakhand has been named the finest aspirational district by the NITI Aayog, receiving an additional three crore rupees as a result.

Rakesh Ranjan, director of the NITI Aayog's Aspirational Districts Program, writes to the district collector of Haridwar and the chief secretary of Uttarakhand to inform them that the district has earned the right to an additional allocation of Rs 3 crore because it placed first in the basic infrastructure theme.

"The Haridwar district has been given to federal minister for commerce and industries Piyush Goyal, who has been actively involved in creating it the nation's most aspirational district. As the top district, we have been given Rs 3 crore for further development on five criteria as part of the aspirational districts initiative, according to district collector Vinay Shankar Pandey of Haridwar.

"The health sector is one area where we have lagged behind in aspirational districts. The district hospital in Haridwar and the sub district hospitals in Roorkee will both receive improvements thanks to the funding allotted for this purpose, Pandey continued.

The letter stated that the districts must create a plan of action in accordance with the requirements of the aspirational districts scheme and work with the state and federal Prabhari Officers before sending it to NITI Aayog for final approval by the Empowered Committee of Secretaries established for the programme.

The district and central Prabhari Officers of the Haridwar district have received congratulations from the director of the NITI Aayog programme, who also asked the chief secretary to give the collector a good service entry.
