Digital Desk: Members of right-wing organizations attempted to enter the premises of the Taj Mahal in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra to recite Hanuman Chalisa as a protest against the ‘hijab’ issue simmering in Karnataka. However, the protesters were stopped by the police from entering the Taj Mahal.
Reportedly, the members of the right-wing organizations demanded that religious attire be prohibited from being worn in schools and universities, and harsh punishment should be taken for anyone who causes problems in the name of ‘hijab.’
Circle Officer Sadar Rajeev Kumar said that the protesters were blocked from visiting the Taj Mahal at Shilpgram parking.
“We received a memorandum and had forwarded it to the appropriate authorities. The memorandum was submitted in response to the ongoing “hijab” protest.” he stated.
Meanwhile, Asheesh Arya, vice president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Braj area, said, “We had planned to recite ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in the Taj Mahal while wearing saffron garments because we consider it to be a ‘Tejo Mahalay’ (Shiva temple), but police stop us.”
“Some people are intentionally stoking religious sensitivities in the context of hijab, in order to polarise votes for the next Assembly Elections. No personal legislation will be enacted in this country; the constitution will take precedence.” he said.
Moreover, the protesters also recited the Hanuman Chalisa at the Hariparwat police station before being released.
“The police halted workers from the VHP, Sewa Bharti, and Durga Vahini at numerous locations in Agra. After being held by police, I shouted ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ with members of Sewa Bharti and Durga Vahini at Hariparwat police statio.” Arya said
Meanwhile, Sewa Bharti’s Bhawna Sharma said, “We intended to calmly chant the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ in the Taj Mahal premises. We informed the police we were going to buy tickets, but we were stopped at ahead of the Taj Mahal at the parking slot.”
“The goal was to register a protest against the ongoing ‘hijab’ issue as schools have a dress code that every student should observe.” she added.
