Digital Desk: A hospital in a remote section of Bangladesh is regarded as the most outstanding new structure in the world. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) has awarded the Friendship Hospital in Satkhira, a cyclone-prone zone, the worldwide prize 2021.
The 80-bed community hospital was designed by Bangladeshi architect Kashef Chowdhury and constructed entirely of local bricks. The hospital was chosen as the winner from three finalists by the jury, which was led by renowned architect Odile Decq.

According to a news statement from RIBA, the hospital, which was built at a low cost, was designed to deal with and endure the tangible global climate change implications of increasing seawater within the surrounding region and is regarded as the most outstanding new structure of the world. The series of courtyards provide natural light and ventilation, while a canal running across the site collects crucial rainwater because groundwater is useless for many purposes, according to the report.
The water channel gives visual respite, assists in microclimatic cooling, and serves as a distraction for both patients and their family members from the disease's concerns. Decq noted that this resulted in a structure that has a human touch and blends in harmoniously with its surroundings.
She said the hospital is highly pertinent to key global challenges like uneven access to healthcare and, as a result, the crushing impact of climate breakdown on vulnerable communities, and that it might be a celebration of a facility dedicated to people. The Friendship Hospital, according to the RIBA statement, "embodies an architecture of kindness and protection that symbolises the Friendship NGO's altruistic goal of bringing dignity and hope to communities via social innovation."
