Hojai: A team of eight Assam police personnel rescues nine girls of Assam who were trafficked to Thampanoor, Kerala on Saturday police report said.

Based on specific inputs, on July 13 a team of eight Assam police personnel left for Kerala to rescue the victims and arrested the two accused.

The accused have been identified as Muffazul Haque from Hojai and Rakbul Hussain from Nagaon while as per the report the girls hails from Hojai, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Morigaon and Kamrup Rural districts. Moreover, the girls and the accused were brought back to Assam.

Special Director General of Police G P Singh said, “An information was received by @Hojai_Police about an illegal human trafficking racket operating from Assam, in which several girls belonging to various districts in Assam have been trafficked to Thampanoor, Kerala."

In connection to this a case was registered at Lanka police station in Hojai district, case no. 453/2021, Dated 11/7/2021, under section 370 (3)/ 370 (5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
