Srinagar: Humanity prevails, and this was proved again after a senior police extended his aid to a local chana-seller (vendor) who was robbed off his life’s savings from his home in Srinagar.

Reportedly, Abdul Rehman, a 90-year-old Chana seller in the Bohri Kadal area, was robbed Rs. 1 lakh from his home, which he had saved for his last rites.

Moved by the pathetic condition, Senior Superintendent of Police Sandeep Chaudhary helped the elderly man with Rs. 1 lakh from his pocket to bring back a smile on the vendor’s face.

Meanwhile, the gesture shared on social media platforms went viral, receiving appreciation from the netizens.

Deputy Mayor, SMC, Parvaiz Ahmed Qadri, tweeted in his Twitter handle, “Appreciative decision by Srinagar police@Sandeep_IPS_JKP towards the old aged Channa seller to assist him with the money of one lakh that was looted from his home. Abdul Rehman had saved the laborious money for his last rites; he sells snacks and lives all alone! Salute sir.”

One of the users said, “A big salute to the Police Officer and I pray for Chana Wala Sasa a long healthy and happy life.” While another wrote, “Our country needs officers like you.”

The post which makes people believe in the existence of humanity have gathered over 2,700 likes and tons of comments.

Sources quoted, the police have registered a case and investigations are underway. Top police officers, including the SSP, were tracking the investigation.
