A university administrator filed a complaint, and the 62-year-old male was arrested for allegedly insulting the woman's modesty.

A translator has been hired to record the woman's statement because the postgraduate student from Thailand is unable to converse in Hindi or English, police said.

The accused professor allegedly made an effort to hug and kiss her at his home on Friday night.

Madhapur DCP K Shilpavalli said to the media: "A professor of the University of Hyderabad has been detained by Cyberabad Police after a student accused him of sexually assaulting her. The student, who is studying here, is from Thailand."

"Following an incident where a professor is accused of assaulting an overseas student at Hyderabad University, students demonstrate on campus. The Cyberabad Police have taken custody of the Professor,"  he added.
