Digital Desk: The Assam Legislative Assembly on Friday witnessed a ruckus as the ruling BJP party's MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi engaged in a heated argument with opposition leaders including Akhil Gogoi and Sherman Ali, making controversial remarks against them by referring to them as 'monkey' and 'fotuwa' (nonsense). He allegedly attempted to physically assault the Leader of the Opposition and other opposition leaders during the verbal spat.

During his speech in the assembly, he was interrupted by opposition leaders, which resulted in his frustration. He started abusing them using inappropriate and unparliamentary words.

The Mariani MLA said, "Don't speak Akhil. I will go and break your microphone. When I am speaking, do not interrupt me. I did not interrupt when you were speaking. Are you people fotuwa?"

The situation escalated after MLA Kurmi attempted to physically attack MLA Akhil Gogoi and Sherman Ali.

His remarks sparked tensions in the assembly as opposition leaders strongly reacted and protested to suspend him for using abusive words.

Condemning the incident, Akhil Gogoi said that March 21 was the black day for electoral democracy. It was the first time in history that the Leader of the Opposition and opposition leaders were attempted to physically attack by a ruling party's MLA.
