Kharge said that during the freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi took donations from the public.

Digital Desk: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched the 'Donate for Desh' crowdfunding campaign for the party. After the campaign kickoff, Kharge made the statement that if you work only by depending on the rich, then you have to follow their policies.

Kharge said that during the freedom movement, Mahatma Gandhi took donations from the public.

"This is the first time Congress has requested donations for the country... You are forced to abide by the policies of the wealthy if your main source of income is from them. During the independence movement, Mahatma Gandhi also accepted donations from the general people," according to Kharge, who was cited by the news agency ANI.

Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely remarked, "This is a very nice initiative by AICC," in reference to the "Donate For Desh" campaign. Rather than approaching companies for donations, even Congress President Mallikarjun Khadge feels that it is preferable to ask the general public. It is thus expected of all of our party employees and top leaders to participate. One thing that excites me greatly is that it will prove to be a win-win situation when we go door to door to meet our voters after December 28, " as quoted by ANI.
