The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted extremely heavy rainfall across several states, with a particular focus on Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim, for Monday, August 4, 2026. This forecast indicates a significant weather event for the region, prompting concerns among residents and authorities.

Beyond the immediate threat of extremely heavy downpours, the Met Department also anticipates heavy to very heavy rainfall in other parts of the Northeast, including Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Neighbouring Bihar is also expected to experience similar intense weather conditions during the day.

Further west and south, a broader band of moderate to heavy rainfall is expected. According to IMD observations, areas such as Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive substantial precipitation. Kerala and Mahe on the southwestern coast are also included in this forecast.

Looking at the coastal and island territories, the IMD has additionally predicted thunderstorm conditions for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands today. Similar weather patterns, characterized by moderate to heavy rainfall and potential thunderstorms, are also anticipated over Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, and North Interior Karnataka. Residents across these regions are advised to stay updated on local weather advisories and take necessary precautions.
