Digital Desk: In Punjab, 90,248 pension beneficiaries were discovered dead during a verification of pensioners receiving various types of pensions from the state exchequer.

Among those verified, 90,248 pensioners were discovered to be deceased, she said, adding that district level officers have been directed to deposit the remaining funds in the treasury by October 21.
Pensions are provided by the Department to the elderly, widows, dependent children, and the disabled. Dr. Kaur described the news about the survey published in some newspapers as unfounded and said she met with the department's district officials on August 4th.
During the meeting, she directed all district officials to identify deceased beneficiaries for the financial assistance scheme for old-age pensioners, widows and dependent women, dependent children, and the destitute.
"By acting in accordance with the orders and reclaiming the funds in their accounts by identifying the deceased beneficiaries, the government's financial loss will be avoided, and other needy people will be helped with these funds," Dr. Kaur said.
The minister stated that no pension should be transferred to the account of a deceased beneficiary. As a result, she directed that a survey of current recipients of old-age pensions and other financial assistance schemes be conducted.
