Digital Desk: Abu Shama, an independent candidate contesting from the Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, has been arrested on allegations of rape. The arrest follows a complaint filed by a woman, accusing Abu Shama of not only raping her but also circulating an obscene video of the assault, which went viral.
The woman reported that she was coerced into the act under the threat of the video being made public, leading to a significant amount of money being extorted from her. Subsequently, the Juria police acted on the complaint and detained Abu Shama during the night.
In a twist to the case, Abu Shama also filed an extortion case against journalists from two private satellite channels and a portal channel. Two journalists responded to police notices and are currently being interrogated, while one journalist accused of demanding money remains at large.
The Juria police are actively investigating the matter, focusing on both the allegations of rape against Abu Shama and the extortion claims involving the journalists.
