Digital Desk: The Union Cabinet approved the Indian Space Policy 2023 on Thursday, with the intent to broaden the importance of the Department of Space, increasing the operations of ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) missions, and increasing the engagement of research, academia, startups, and industry.
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh stated at a press conference on Thursday, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opted to open up the space sector to private engagement. Because of this, the number of startups in ISRO has increased to almost 150 in the last three years..."
"The Cabinet today approved the Indian Space Policy 2023, which clarifies the role of each of these additional components that have been established to increase the role of the space department and to boost the operations of ISRO missions. To increase engagement from academia, startups, and industry, "the Minister added.
Meanwhile, Lt. General AK Bhatt (ret. ), Director General of the Indian Space Association, stated that this event was a historic occasion for India.
General Bhatt, addressing the audience of the Indian Space Association, stated, "The cabinet approved the Indian Space Policy 2023 today, marking a watershed event in Indian history. It would make it possible to move forward with much-needed clarity in space reforms and boost private industry participation to advance the country's space economy opportunity."
