The success of Indian archers in achieving medals at Paris 2024 hinges significantly on today's ranking round.

Digital Desk: India's quest for glory at the 2024 Paris Olympics commences today as star archers Deepika Kumar and Tarundeep take to the field at Les Invalides. Both the men's and women's archery teams from India aim to secure favorable rankings ahead of the medal events starting on July 27.

This year marks India's return with a full complement of six archers at the Olympics for the first time since London 2012, competing across all five medal events: men's team and individual, women's team and individual, and mixed team. The Indian contingent is poised for a challenging campaign.

The success of Indian archers in achieving medals at Paris 2024 hinges significantly on today's ranking round.

Why is the ranking round crucial for India's medal prospects?

  • The ranking round performance will determine the seeding of individual archers and teams in the competition.
  • The top four men's and women's teams following the rankings will secure direct qualification to the quarterfinals.
  • The remaining four spots in the quarterfinals will be contested among teams ranked seventh to 12th.
  • Qualification for the mixed team event will also be decided based on the ranking round, with only the top 16 pairs advancing.
  • The highest scores from the men's and women's ranking rounds will be combined to determine the overall seeding for nations fielding at least one male and one female archer.
