Digital Desk: Meta-owned Instagram has unveiled a cutting-edge AI media editing tool called "Backdrop," designed to empower users to seamlessly modify image backgrounds for their Stories. Initially launched exclusively for users in the United States, Backdrop allows users to transform their image backgrounds with just a few taps and creative prompts such as 'chased by dinosaurs' or 'surrounded by puppies.'

Ahmad Al-Dahle, Meta’s lead for generative AI, shared the exciting news on Threads, stating, "With backdrop, you can reimagine your image’s background with just a few taps and a prompt to create an entirely new image for your Story." Users can access this feature by tapping the 'backdrop' button at the top of a new Story.

To encourage exploration, a 'Try it' sticker appears when sharing the edited image, facilitating an effortless introduction for friends to experience the AI editing tool.

In addition to this innovative feature, Instagram is expanding its Close Friends functionality beyond Stories and Notes to encompass feed posts-old and Reels. This enhancement enables users to share Reels and feed posts-old exclusively with a smaller, trusted circle rather than their entire follower base. The developers aim to provide users with "more ways to be your most authentic self on Instagram while having more choices over who sees your content." This expansion reflects Instagram's commitment to fostering personalized, pressure-free connections among users.
