An official statement stated that WhatsApp communication for e-catering services will be deployed on selected trains and passengers first...

Digital Desk: On Monday, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) revealed that travellers will soon be able to order food over WhatsApp.

An official statement stated that WhatsApp communication for e-catering services will be deployed on selected trains and passengers first, and that the services will be supplied based on consumer feedback and suggestions.

Meanwhile, the IRCTC is delivering meals along some routes via WhatsApp at +91 8750001323. It is currently planning to expand the service to include more trains.

It should be noted that the first phase is already in place on some trains arriving from specific routes.

As a result, a company WhatsApp number sends a message to consumers who order e-tickets and opt in for e-catering services by visiting www.ecatering.irctc.co.in.

Following that, clients will be able to book meals of their choice from restaurants accessible at stations en route directly through the IRCTC e-catering website without even having to download their App.

The interactive WhatsApp meal booking and delivery will be designed in the following step.

The WhatsApp number will then be converted into an interactive two-way communication platform for the customer, with an AI-powered chatbot handling all e-catering service requests for the passengers and booking meals for them.

The IRCTC has launched its e-catering services through a specifically created website www.catering.irctc.co.in as well its e-catering app 'Food on Track'.

It is worth noting that the IRCTC's e-catering services, which are available via its website and app, currently serve around 50,000 meals every day to clients.
