According to sources, Shahi Imam Bukhari of the Jama Masjid spoke with Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and asked him to revoke the order that barred women from entering the mosque.

Digital Desk: Imam Bukhari decided to rescind the ban restricting entrance to only one gender under the condition that girls and women will "respect and uphold the sanctity of Delhi Jama Masjid" premises. The Jama Masjid administration has banned girls and girls without male companions from entering, a guideline stated that was enacted earlier today.

As long as visitors respect and maintain the Jama Masjid's purity, Imam Bukhari has agreed to lift the ban on women entering the mosque, the source stated.

According to sources, Shahi Imam Bukhari of the Jama Masjid spoke with Delhi's Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and asked him to revoke the order that barred women from entering the mosque.

Imam Bukhari then decided to withdraw the order in exchange for visitors' greatest courtesy and maintenance of the mosque's sanctity.

The law received criticism after it was put into effect. BJP leaders characterised it as evidence of "misogyny," but the chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, questioned, "Is this Iran?"

The decision to forbid women was criticised, and the situation quickly became more serious. Maliwal, the head of the Delhi Women Panel, sent a notice to the Jama Masjid management disputing the directive that forbade women from entering the compound without male companions or male family members.

Maliwal raised concerns about the decision shortly after the restriction was enacted, which barred only one gender.

A place of worship should be accessible to everyone, regardless of gender, said DCW's notification. "Preventing women from freely attending and practising their faith in the mosque is highly discriminatory and an incredibly regressive practise," it said.

It declared that the order was "clearly misogynistic and contrary to the spirit of the Indian Constitution."
