Digital Desk: The following G20 summit, which will feature a significant number of the world's largest economies, will be held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2023. In light of this, the Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday established a five-person high level committee for general coordination.

After the former state was split into two union territories in 2019, it would be the first significant international conference to be hosted in Jammu and Kashmir.

In September of last year, Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, was chosen to represent India at the G20 conference.

India will begin holding the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and will host the first G-20 summit in 2023, according to the external affairs ministry.

The union territory's principal secretary of housing and urban development will preside over the committee established to oversee the preparations, per an order issued on Thursday.

"Sanction is now accorded to the creation of a committee...for overall co-ordination of G20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&K," said the order made by Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, principal secretary of the general administration department.

The administrative secretary of culture, the commissioner secretary of transportation, the administrative secretary of tourism, and the administrative secretaries of hospitality and protocol are the other members of the committee.

"Further, Principal Secretary to the Government, Housing and Urban Development Department is also nominated as UT level nodal official to oversee the arrangements for G20 meetings in the Union Territory of J&K," the order continued.

It should be mentioned that since 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has led India's delegation to the G20 summit. Since the G20's founding in 1999, India has been a participant.

The MEA states that from December 1, 2021, through November 30, 2024, India will be a member of the G20 Troika, which consists of the outgoing, current, and incoming G20 Presidency.
