Digital Desk: Japanese Encephalitis has claimed 44 lives across Assam so far, according to the state branch of the National Health Mission (NHM).

Three people died in the state in the last 24 hours- two in the Nagaon district and one in the Chirang district, officials said on Tuesday.
Data from the NHM, Assam also showed that eight new cases of Japanese encephalitis had been found in the state in the past 24 hours-three in Nagaon, two in Tinsukia, and one in each of the districts of Chirang, Jorhat, and Kamrup.

The virus has spread to several districts in Assam, including Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Hojai, Morigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa, Chirang, and Udalguri.
Health professionals have been undertaking extensive awareness campaigns against the disease throughout the state, and the NHM has released a standard operating procedure and recommendations to address the situation resulting from the outbreak.
It is to be noted that the state's death toll from landslides and floods this year has climbed into the Cachar district of Assam.
