Digital Desk: Jayanta Baruah on Sunday received the official certificate from the Guinness World Records team for being the largest bilingual braille dictionary with 90,640-word entries ‘Hemkosh’ and its official certificate presentation ceremony was held at the Birinchi Kumar Baruah (BKB) Auditorium, Gauhati University on May 1, 2023.
Notably, 1st May is also the 127th death anniversary of ‘Bhaxar Oja’ Late Hemchandra Baruah.
The certificate was received in August presence of the Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, and several other noted personalities including the VC of Gauhati University, Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique, Pijus Hazarika, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment Department, Bhartendu Pandey, Professor of Department of Sanskrit, Delhi University, Basanta Goswami, amongst other distinguished personalities, academicians, journalists, litterateurs, and socio-cultural organizational leaders.
People came in large numbers to witness the historic event.
On the dias, Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria, Gauhati University VC, Professor Pratap Jyoti Handique lauded the efforts of Jayanta Baruah, in flied of language. They congratulated Hemkosh Prakashan, to take Assamese Language and his noble contribution to the world stage.
Jayanta Baruah thanked the entire team of Hemkosh’s braille dictionary. He expressed his gratitude towards Pijus Hazarika, Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, and also the Commissioner, Manager, and staff of Govt.
It's important to note that the 'LARGEST BILINGUAL BRAILLE DICTIONARY' by Hemkosh, the world record holder, has 90,640 words printed across 10,279 pages in 21 volumes and 6 parts, weighing 80.800 kg.

To continue the "Hemkosh" heritage, Jayanta Baruah, the late Hemchandra Baruah's grandson, conceptualised and released the "Hemkosh" Braille version. This edition of "Hemkosh" spans more than 15 volumes and has almost 10,000 pages.
This Hemkosh Braille dictionary is the first full-language Braille dictionary after Oxford.
