Digital Desk: The United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) has claimed responsibility for the Thursday night grenade attack in Jorhat, Assam.

According to authorities, ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah admitted to being behind the explosion in a phone conversation with a local TV channel.

The explosion occurred near the Lichubari Military base at around 7:30 p.m., leading nearby inhabitants to temporarily close their stores and business establishments.

Notably, It was discovered that two guys on a motorbike, presumed to be ULFA-I members, threw a grenade into the army camp.

Soon afterwards, top police officials arrived to assess the situation. Fortunately, no human casualties or injuries have been reported as a result of the incident. An investigation into the incident was underway.

According to reports, the ULFA-I claimed responsibility for the two explosions.

The ULFA-I subsequently released a statement cautioning Assam Director General of Police (DGP) G P Singh "We have no issue with the Assam Police. We would, however, caution GP Singh not to claim the Assam Police as his ancestral property. He has given an identity to his arrogance, which has hurt not only the sentiments of the officers/personnel employed in the Assam Police but also the indigenous people of the state," stated the proscribed militant outfit.

"The two operations that we carried out were simply reactions to GP Singh's self-interest. With this, we would like GP Singh to understand that in the future, the ULFA-I can conduct any type of operation at any location if he does not stop viewing the Assam Police as his ancestral property," the statement continued.
