The appointment was made official by a notification from the Department of Justice's appointment division, which is part of the Ministry of Law and Justice of the Government of India.
Prior to his current position, Justice Vijay Bishnoi was a Rajasthan High Court judge. His appointment will become official on the day he assumes responsibility.
"In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Judge of the Rajasthan High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," the official notification read.
