Some of the movies' box office performance was affected by the trend. Before Laal Singh Chaddha was released, Twitter users started trending the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha, urging people not to see the film.

Digital Desk: At a recent event, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan responded to the growing #BoycottBollywood trend. On Sunday in Kolkata, she attended the Indian Chamber of Commerce-Young Leaders Forum event.

Kareena said when discussing the boycott of Bollywood culture, "I completely disagree with that. If that happens, how will we entertain and how will you feel the happiness and fulfillment in life that I believe everyone needs? And which films and cinema are promising, as we always have and as films always have. Agar films nahi hogi toh entertainment kaisa hoga."

Following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the hashtag Boycott Bollywood became popular among the uninitiated. However, in 2022, before the release of numerous movies including Laal Singh Chaddha, Liger, Brahmastra, and Raksha Bandhan, internet users revived the fad. Some of the movies' box office performance was impacted by the trend. Before Laal Singh Chaddha was released, Twitter users started trending the hashtag #BoycottLaalSinghChaddha, urging people not to see the film.

When the movie was deemed a box office failure, people realised the significance of what had once appeared to be a few lighthearted trolls stirring up some panic around the release. Aamir's divisive statement about "India's growing intolerance" resurfaced by some Twitter users who searched through the site's archives and spread it there. The internet has also been the source of some of Kareena's contentious earlier remarks.

However, Brahmastra scored quite well at the box office, being one of the highest-grossing movies of 2022. Films like Liger and Brahmastra were also criticised by many for calling for boycotts. Before the release of SRK and Deepika Padukone's movie Pathaan, the trend once more began. The song Besharam Rang from the movie was released online on December 12 and quickly became viral. While many people enjoyed the upbeat song, some found "Besharam Rang" offensive because of the saffron and green outfits. Many activists even organised a protest in Indore against the songs Pathaan and Besharam Rang and burned effigies of Deepika and Shah Rukh.

She will next be seen in the thriller film The Devotion of Suspect X, directed by Sujoy Ghosh and based on the novel of the same name. Jaideep Ahlawat and Vijay Varma are also featured. In addition to that, she also has the upcoming, untitled movie from director Hansal Mehta.
