Desk: With the assistance of the federal government, the Punjab Police claims
to have located and imprisoned key suspect Sachin Thapan in Azerbaijan, marking
a significant development in the murder investigation of Punjabi
singer-politician Sidhu Moose Wala. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang member Goldy
Brar, who has taken credit for the singer's assassination, and Thapan were
allegedly talking on the phone when the singer was killed.
"The individual on the calls
with Goldy Brar, Sachin Thapan, is being held in Azerbaijan with assistance
from the Indian authorities. Our united efforts are intended to bring the
family justice, "said Gaurav Yadav, DGP of Punjab.
Before the murder of Moose Wala,
Thapan and another suspect, Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of mobster Lawrence
Bishnoi, left the country using false passports.
"He first took off for Dubai. We were able to locate him in
Azerbaijan with the help of the Indian government and other central
organisations. There is a court proceeding going on. He should be brought to
India shortly, we hope," Yadav said.
On May 29, Moose Wala was shot dead
by attackers in the village of Jawaharke in the Punjabi province's Mansa
district, one day after the Punjab Police removed 424 other people's security.
Prior to the assembly elections, he had joined the Congress party in December
of the previous year.
In the Moose Wala murder case,
Punjabi police have charged 34 individuals, of whom eight have not yet been
apprehended.
"Eight persons have not yet
been detained, while four people are now abroad. There are 122 persons there to
give evidence in total "said SSP Gaurav Toora.
According to the official, the case
also involves more than a dozen other individuals, including Lawrence Bishnoi,
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Satwinder Goldie Brar, Sachin Thapan, Anmol Bishnoi, and
Lipin Nehra.
Gulneet Singh Khurana, senior superintendent of police in Moga, stated that Bishnoi was hauled in for interrogation in connection with an attempted murder case that was filed in December 2021 and in which police had detained a sharpshooter from Bishnoi's gang, Monu Dagar.
