Guwahati: KMSS leaders Dharjya Konwar, Bitu Sonowal and Manash Konwar are on 48 hunger strike amidst Bihu celebrations in the state, demanding the scrapping of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act and the release of peasant leader Akhil Gogoi.

The three KMSS leaders sat on hunger strike on Wednesday night at Chachal in Sixmile, Guwahati. It may be noted that Akhil Gogoi has been in prison since December 12, 2019, allegedly for having links with Maoist groups. The peasant leader’s bail plea was rejected by Gauhati High Court on January 7.

While the state celebrates Bihu, the three leaders are protesting against the government for not releasing their leader and KMSS chief Akhil Gogoi.
