Digital Desk: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is on his way out, and Shahbaz Sharif is a possible replacement. Shahbaz is spearheading a no-trust motion against Khan, which the Pakistan Army installed by cobbling together a majority with the help of smaller parties. Khan has now lost favour with the army and also with his allies. As of today, Khan will be forced to resign; it's only a matter of days. He has 164 members, while the Opposition, led by Sharif, has crossed the 172-member majority threshold in the 342-member National Assembly. Here's a quick look at Shahbaz Sharif's profile Shehbaz Sharif is the younger brother of former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He is currently the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. Sharif was the chief minister of Punjab, Pakistan's most politically important province. He has served as chief minister of Punjab three times, making him the longest-serving Chief Minister in the province's history. Shahbaz was elected to both the Punjab Assembly and the National Assembly in 1988 and 1990, respectively. He was re-elected to the Punjab Assembly three years later and named Leader of the Opposition. Shahbaz was voted into power as Punjab's chief minister for the first time in 1997. However, following a military coup in 1999, Shahbaz and his family fled to Saudi Arabia in self-exile. He only returned to Pakistan in 2007. A year later, his party, the PML-N (Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz), won an election, and Shahbaz was appointed chief minister for the second time.
