Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that the name of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International airport won't be renamed as has been speculated.

Speaking to the media, CM Sarma said, “The name of LGBI Airport will not be changed till I serve as the chief minister and till Narendra Modi served as the Prime Minister.”

The chief minister further stated that he won’t let that happen and the Borjhar airport will always be known as LGBI airport.

CM Sarma also urged people not to create unnecessary clutter over the matter.

The Central Government had named the Borjhar airport after the first Chief Minister of Assam — Bharat Ratna Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi. It is now known as Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) airport
