Digital Desk: Tensions flared late last night after a theft attempt at the Electricity Department office in Chirankhundi, Rangia, left two local residents seriously injured.

The incident began in the early hours when local resident Ramzan Ali intercepted a group of thieves attempting to flee with stolen APDCL materials.

In a desperate bid to escape, the thieves used an e-rickshaw to drag Ramzan Ali for a significant distance, resulting in a broken leg that required immediate hospitalisation.

The situation escalated further when another local, Gulam Nabi Azad, allegedly intervened to protect the thieves from being apprehended by Ali's family and other residents.

During the confrontation, Gulam Nabi reportedly attacked Ali's nephew Mustahidur Rahman, inflicting severe head injuries.

Rangia police has since detained Gulam Nabi Azad on charges of aiding the thieves and assault, along with the e-rickshaw driver Ritu Das.

Police successfully recovered the stolen materials and confirmed that the Electricity Department has filed an FIR.

Both suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues.
