Digital Desk: The third phase of the Lok Sabha general elections in Assam kicked off on Tuesday, marking the final round of polling for the state's 14 constituencies. Among the four seats up for grabs, today is Guwahati, where voters will play a crucial role in shaping the political landscape.

Guwahati, a key constituency, will witness a showdown between prominent candidates like Congress' Mira Borthakur and BJP's Bijuli Kalita Medhi. Comprising five assembly constituencies, including Dispur and Jalukbari, Guwahati holds significant electoral sway.

With a robust infrastructure in place, Assam is geared up for a smooth voting process. A total of 1,026 polling stations have been set up across Guwahati, ensuring accessibility for the electorate. Overseeing proceedings are 1,283 presiding officers, 4,620 polling officers, and adequate security personnel, guaranteeing a secure and transparent electoral exercise.

The state's electoral landscape reflects diversity, with a staggering 8,149,091 eligible voters. Notably, this includes a substantial number of new voters aged 18 to 19, reflecting growing political engagement among the youth. Moreover, Assam's commitment to inclusivity is evident, with provisions made for differently-abled voters and those aged above 100 years.

In the third phase, a total of 47 candidates, comprising 41 males and 6 females, will vie for victory. Barpeta constituency boasts the highest number of candidates, underscoring the democratic fervor pervading the region.

As Assam concludes its electoral journey for the Lok Sabha polls, the outcome of today's voting will shape the state's political trajectory. With voters exercising their democratic rights, the future of Assam hangs in the balance, awaiting the verdict of its people.
