The ED alleges that Huma Qureshi had promoted the app, while Kapil Sharma had entertained guests at a wedding of one of the app's promoters...

Digital Desk: Actor Huma Qureshi and comedian Kapil Sharma have requested additional time to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in the Mahadev betting app case. The ED had summoned the two celebrities as part of its money laundering investigation related to the controversial betting app.

The ED alleges that Huma Qureshi had promoted the app, while Kapil Sharma had entertained guests at a wedding of one of the app's promoters held abroad. The investigation aims to uncover any financial irregularities associated with their involvement.

Furthermore, the ED issued summons to actors Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, and Hina Khan, although they may not be direct suspects in the case. Ranbir Kapoor has also sought a two-week extension before appearing for questioning.

The Mahadev Book app came under scrutiny following an India Today exclusive report in September, which revealed that actors and singers attended the wedding ceremony of the app's promoter, Sourabh Chandrakar, in the UAE earlier this year. Preliminary findings by the Enforcement Directorate unveiled the app's alleged involvement in large-scale money laundering activities.

It is believed that a company operated from Dubai, promoted by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, used the betting application to enroll new users, generate fake IDs, and launder money through a complex network of benami bank accounts. The ED sources reported that a staggering Rs 112 crore was transferred via hawala channels to an event management company, with an additional Rs 42 crore in cash used for hotel bookings.

The case continues to draw attention as the ED deepens its investigation into the financial intricacies of the Mahadev Book app and its connections with Bollywood celebrities.
