Digital Desk: A curfew has been imposed in Nagpur's different areas after 33 police personnel and 5 civilians were injured amid the violence on Monday evening over the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. A massive clash between two groups in the Mahal area of the city erupted, which led to the vandalism of houses and shops, and around a dozen vehicles set on fire by the rioters.

Speaking in the Assembly, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the violence was planned. He said, "In Nagpur, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal held protests. Rumours were spread that things containing religious content were burnt...It looks like a well-planned attack. No one has permission to take law and order into their hands."

He added that rioters who attacked police during the clash would not be spared.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde advised the Aurangzeb supporters to read history and watch the movie 'Chhava' and called the violence a 'planned conspiracy'.

However, the opposition blamed the government as they alleged a complete breakdown of communal harmony and law and order.

Referring to the Manipur violence, Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray said that it was "an attempt to make a Manipur of Maharashtra."
