Abdul Latif, a resident of Gunaibori village, tried to intervene in a gambling session taking place at the house of Dildar Hussain, another villager.
His actions provoked a violent response from a group led by Hirauz Jamal, who attacked Latif with an axe, causing grave injuries.
Latif was immediately rushed to Moirabari Hospital in critical condition, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The victim's family has urged the Moirabari police to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice is served.
