Chandigarh: A man with 17 Kg of Heroin was arrested by the Amritsar Rural Police On Thursday.

According to reports, the heroin was hidden underneath his Innova cab and was smuggled by him from Jammu and Kashmir

The car registration number bearing PB01A6708 and the man has been identified as Ranjit Singh alias Sonu.

The accused is said to be a resident of Udham Singh Colony in Amritsar.

Sources said he designed two fabricated compartments in his car to smuggle the heroin without coming to the notice of the police.

The police acted on a tip-off and learned that he was on his way from Amritsar via Pathankot. Soon after the police formed two different teams to arrest the accused.

The accused during his interrogation revealed that he had picked up the consignment from the Naushera area of J&K following the instructions of Ranjit Singh alias Rana and Malkeet Singh alias Laddu.

Ranjit Singh is currently in Faridkot Jail and Malkeet Singh is in Sri Muktsar Sahib Jail and Rana is said to be the mastermind behind the racket.
