According to security force sources, the local population appreciated the prompt effort made by the Army column and thanked the security forces for their unwavering support.

Digital Desk: On May 28, the Army mobilised three columns in response to specific intelligence about armed criminals trespassing openly with the intent to attack Security Forces in the vicinity of the City Convention Centre in Manipur's Imphal East District to set up numerous Mobile Vehicle Check posts-old (MVCP) there and apprehend the miscreants.

The security forces claim that at 7:30 pm, an MVCP observed a suspected Maruti Alto car approaching with four passengers inside. The criminals attempted to flee into the colony's byways after being halted and getting out of the vehicle. However, on-site forces who were alert managed to capture all three criminals. This quick action by the ground forces may have prevented a serious incident from happening.

Sixty rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, one Chinese hand grenade, one detonator, one INSAS rifle with magazine, and one hand grenade were also found. After being captured with firearms and ammo, the three criminals were subsequently handed over to the Manipur Police.

A few miscreants attempted to damage the Wainem Bridge and dislodged three panels, according to information the Army received earlier on May 27, 2023.

Immediately after receiving the call, the closest Army column sent a recovery vehicle to the scene of the incident. To allow for the free movement of vehicles, the bridge needed immediate repair due to partial damage. In the shortest amount of time possible, the column was able to restore the bridge with the assistance of the residents of Wainem, Imol, and Irengbam. According to the reports, the bridge is now ready for the movement of people and materials.

According to security force sources, the local population appreciated the prompt effort made by the Army column and thanked the security forces for their unwavering support.
It should be noted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will begin a four-day visit to Manipur on Monday to assess the situation and determine what has to be done to bring the northeastern state's normalcy back.

Reports state that he will be in Imphal by this evening and remain there till June 1.

Amit Shah will convene numerous rounds of security discussions during his visit to the state to assess the situation and choose the best course of action for returning things to normal.
