Digital Desk: A moderate-intensity earthquake measuring 4 on the Richter Scale struck Manipur's mountainous Ukhrul regions bordering Myanmar on Tuesday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:4.0, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 12:20:43 IST, Lat: 25.00 & Long: 96.28, Depth: 10 Km , Location: 181km E of Ukhrul, Manipur," NCS tweeted.

Moreover, the NCS atated that the tremor was felt in the hilly areas of northeastern Ukhrul district and adjacent areas, which share a border with Myanmar.

The quake, which occurred at a depth of 10 km from the surface, prompted panic among people, who ran out of their homes.

The report stated that there was no immediate report of any casualties or property damage.

Successive earthquakes in the hilly northeastern regions, particularly Assam, Mizoram, and Manipur, have alarmed officials, prompting them to construct earthquake-resistant structures.

Seismologists rank the northeastern region as the world's sixth most earthquake-prone region.

Meanwhile, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake shook Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday afternoon.

"Earthquake of Magnitude:5.4, Occurred on 13-06-2023, 13:33:42 IST, Lat: 33.15 & Long: 75.82, Depth: 6 Km ,Location: Doda, Jammu and Kashmir," NCS tweeted.
