Digital Desk: In response to an increase in Covid cases in various European and East Asian nations, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya orders officials to maintain high-level alertness and surveillance, as well as to conduct rigorous genomic sequencing. Moreover, the high-level meeting chaired by minister Mandaviya also reviewed the government’s decision to resume scheduled international flights from March 27 and immunization situation as well as the level of genomic surveillance. “In light of the mounting cases in China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and certain European nations, the Union health minister convened a high-level meeting with senior government officials and specialists,” an official source said. “Aggressive genome sequencing, heightened surveillance, and a high degree of alertness have been directed by the minister,” the source quoted. Reportedly, the meeting was attended by senior government officials such as Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, Department of Biotechnology Secretary Dr Rajesh Gokhale, Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals S Aparna, NITI Aayog member (Health) V K Paul, ICMR Director-General Dr Balram Bhargava, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria, and Dr N K Arora, chairman of the NTAGI’s COVID-19 working group.
