Digital Desk: Tinsukia police superintendent Gaurav Abhijit Dilip promised on Friday that a charge sheet in the Margherita rape and murder case would be filed within a month.

The top district officer has also promised to quicken the proceedings.

Tinsukia police suspect that other people are involved in the alleged rape and murder case.

Meanwhile, Anan Tanti, the culprit in the Margherita rape and murder case, has been sent to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for medical treatment after suffering a bullet wound to his lower limb.

It is to be mentioned that Tinsukia police previously retrieved the body of a young girl from a septic tank in Jayanagar, Margherita.

Following this, after a manhunt, the Margherita police arrested the rape and murder suspect, Anan Tanti. Tanti, according to police officials, was hiding in the Deomali area near the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

On Thursday evening, police allegedly opened fire on Tanti after he attempted to evade their custody while being transported to the Margherita police station from Arunachal Pradesh.
