Digital Desk: In a significant breakthrough, a joint operation conducted by the Special Task Force (STF) and Cachar Police in Assam's Cachar district on Tuesday led to the seizure of a massive consignment of heroin and yaba tablets with an estimated value of Rs. 45 crores. The operation carried out under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Partha Sarathi Mahanta, culminated in the arrest of three drug peddlers in connection with the illicit drug haul.

The operation took place at Ramnagar bypass in Silchar, where the STF and Cachar Police intercepted a vehicle en route from Mizoram to Silchar. During the search, 2.5 kilograms of heroin and a staggering one lakh yaba tablets were seized from a vehicle.

The seizure dealt a significant blow to the narcotics trade in the region, sending a strong message to drug syndicates operating in the area. The total estimated value of the confiscated drugs is an astonishing Rs. 45 crores, underscoring the magnitude of the illegal drug network that had been operating in the state.

Following the successful operation, the police arrested three individuals suspected of being involved in the drug trafficking ring. The arrested individuals were identified as Manowar Hussain, Sadar Uddin, and Afsar Alam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the combined efforts of the STF and police in their unwavering determination to tackle the drug menace. He praised their dedication and vigilance, which led to the seizure of this substantial consignment of illicit drugs. The Chief Minister also reaffirmed the state government's commitment to combating the drug trade and vowed to take stringent measures against those involved in such illegal activities.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "In the midnight today, STF and @cacharpolice jointly intercepted a vehicle which was coming from a neighbouring state and seized 2.5 kg Heroin and 1 lakh Yaba tablets in Silchar. Also apprehended three accused. Commendable work @assampolice. Keep it up."
