No casualties reported since the Jorhat market was closed at night, and the fire caused significant financial loss...

Digital Desk: On Thursday night, a big fire broke out at Chowk Bazar, Jorhat, Assam. Twenty-five fire tenders were tackling a blaze at the market in Jorhat's town area. According to police officials, about 150 shops were destroyed.

Reportedly, The fire started in a fabric shop near the market's main gate.

"We can't say how much damage has been done yet, but more than 100 shops have been damaged because the area is commercial. Firefighters have raced to the scene. The matter is now under control. We believe the fire started as a result of a short circuit "said Jorhat SP, ML Meena.

According to authorities, there were no casualties because all shops were closed and the owners and workers had gone home.

They claimed that the majority of those destroyed were clothing and grocery stores.

Officials said that more fire brigades from the surrounding towns of Titabor and Mariani, as well as the Golaghat region, were called in to overcome the deadly blaze.

Locals reported that the fire trucks were having difficulty reaching the scene due to limited roadways.

The losses, which are likely to be in crores of rupees, will be known only when the fire has been doused, according to authorities.

This is the second large fire in Jorhat in the last two months. Many shops in the Marwari Patty area were destroyed by a major fire in December.
