Ri-Bhoi police team launched an operation and located the suspicious bag in a compound opposite the Meghalaya Rural Bank
Digital Desk: A major tragedy was averted in the state of Meghalaya, when police managed to locate and defuse an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the Umsning market, in the Ri-Bhoi district, on the evening of 11th October.
At approximately 7.30 PM, the police were informed about a found bag with possible explosives inside an unknown unidentified in the market area . Ri-Bhoi police team. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a Ri-Bhoi police team to raid the area, and found the suspicious bag in a compound opposite the Meghalaya Rural Bank.
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and a K-9 unit were immediately called to the scene. Upon inspection, the teams confirmed the presence of explosives. With the help the skills of BDDS staff that they managed to defuse the IED without losing life or property.
Preliminary analysis revealed that the IED was assembled using 4.7 kilograms of gelatine sticks as the main explosive, 10 detonators, and approximately 50 iron rods intended to act as splinters. All retrieved items had been confiscated according to the standard operating procedure and safety measures.
Police have registered a case, and investigations are underway. One suspect has been identified, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the individual responsible.
