People from the locality rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the fire
Digital Desk: A massive fire broke out late at night on 23rd Feb, at Bhangarpar Market along the Silchar–Kalain road in Barkhola, Cachar district of Assam, reducing a shop to ashes and triggering panic in the area.
According to reports, local residents noticed flames rising from the shop and immediately raised an alarm. People from the locality rushed to the spot and attempted to douse the fire. The incident was promptly reported to the Bhangarpar Police Outpost and the fire department.
Police personnel from Bhangarpar Outpost arrived at the scene without delay and, along with local residents, tried to control the blaze. A fire engine also reached the spot; however, by the time it arrived, the shop had already been completely gutted.
Tension briefly flared in the area following the incident, with locals staging a protest demanding the establishment of a fire station at Bhangarpar Market to prevent such losses in the future. The situation was later brought under control by the police.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Initial estimates suggest that property worth several lakh rupees was destroyed in the incident.
