Digital Desk: Assam Rifles troopers seized a massive shipment of illegal Areca Nuts worth Rs 1 crore from General Area Hnahlan in Mizoram's Champhai district.

Acting on specific information, the Assam Rifles and the Custom Preventive Force collaborated to seize 180 bags of illegal Areca Nuts.

In connection with the seizure, one person, identified as Lalfamkima (28), was arrested.

The seized Areca Nuts were later turned over to Customs for further legal action.

Assam Rifles troopers seized 103 bags of illegal areca nuts worth over Rs 57 lakhs earlier this month in Mizoram's Champhai district.

A combined team of Assam Rifles and the Customs Department conducted an operation and seized areca nuts worth Rs 57.68 lakh based on specific information.

There were no arrests made in connection with the case.

The ongoing smuggling of illegal areca nuts is a major source of concern in Mizoram. The Assam Rifles, dubbed the "Sentinels of the Northeast," have successfully launched such operations against smuggling activities in Mizoram.
