Digital Desk: While the world is coping with the new Omicron variant, Israel detected its first ever ‘Florona’ case, a double infection of Covid-19 and influenza, triggering panic among the citizens.

The news of the first ‘Florona’ case was confirmed by the Arab News on Friday.

An Israeli newspaper reported the case as being a double infection, found in a woman who entered the Rabin Medical Center this week to give birth.

Meanwhile, Israel has begun delivering fourth vaccine dose to its citizens, who fall under the most vulnerable category, becoming of the first countries to do so as it prepares for a wave of infections driven by the Omicron variant.

Israel holds the record of becoming the first country in the world to beat the vaccination program in 2020. It has now already begun to administer a fourth dose of the vaccine to individuals with weakened immune systems along with the elderly residents and employees in care homes.

Israel began administering its fourth dose to 150 medical staff who already took a booster shot in August. The country was also the first country in the world to roll out Pfizer’s vaccine and began administering booster doses last summer.

The country continues to reel under infection spread fuelled by the Delta variant of the virus as officials have warned of another surge in cases driven by the Omicron variant.

The new variant “Florona” has put the nation on its toes as even 22,000 active patients, with over 90 of the in serious condition, put the medical sector on a tight rope.
