Digital Desk: Ukraine's capital city, Kyiv, was rocked by multiple explosions early on Monday in an attack by "Kamikaze" drones, a Ukrainian official said.
Ukraine's presidential office chief, Andriy Yermak, stated that kamikaze drones were attacking the city.
In a statement, Yermak blamed Russia for the attack, saying, "The Russians think it will benefit them, but these actions look like desperation."
Several residential buildings were damaged in the attack.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said in a Telegram message that the "drone strike" caused a "fire in a non-residential building."
According to Kyiv, Moscow used Iranian-supplied drones in recent operations against Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and other Ukrainian cities, and has pleaded with Western countries to scale up their help in the face of the new challenge.
At least three explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital at around 6:45 a.m. local time on Monday as a result of apparent Russian strikes CNN reported.
One of the blasts was in the Shevchenkivskyi district in the centre of the Ukrainian capital. Emergency services have been dispatched to the spot in order to handle the situation.
The war between Russia and Ukraine has only escalated after a truck recently exploded on the Crimea road bridge, causing seven fuel tanks of a train heading to the Crimean Peninsula to catch fire. The explosion, which also caused two of the road bridge's spans to partly collapse, claimed the lives of three persons.
Four years after Moscow occupied Crimea, President Vladimir Putin officially opened the Crimean Bridge in 2018. It was built to connect the peninsula to Russia's transportation system.
The 19-kilometer bridge, which runs across the Kerch Strait and connects Crimea with mainland Russia, consists of a railway and vehicle sections. It became fully operational in 2020.
Earlier, the transport ministry stated that the bridge, which has two parallel paths for cars and trains, may be accessible to trains by 8 p.m. Moscow time (1700 GMT) on Saturday.
