Lucknow: In an act towards humanity, a Mumbai doctor has come forward to sponsor the entire education of a Dalit girl Sanskriti Ranjan, who failed to deposit a fee of Rs 15,000 for a seat allotment in IIT-BHU after cracking the Joint Entrance exam (JEE) Advanced.
The report came to light when Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh of Allahabad High Court had volunteered to contribute the amount of Rs 15,000 from his pocket.
Many IIT alumni and advocates came forward to help the student, including Dr. Sonal Chauhan, who is currently working as a consultant at Wadia Children Hospital, Mumbai. She moved to the court, filing an intervention application to sponsor the student’s entire study.

Further appreciating Dr Sonal’s move, the High Court bench asked the Central and state government to provide information about any scheme for the poor and deprived students who secure seats in prestigious examinations like NEET, CLAT, JEE but are not able to pay their fees.
On November 29, the High Court directed IIT-BHU and the Joint Seat Allocation Authority to grant her admission after forming a supernumerary seat.
In this context, the IIT-BHU counsel asked time from the court for the details of the student’s expenses, including hostel charges.
Sanskriti Ranjan belongs to the scheduled caste, and secured 1469 rank in JEE Advanced; however, she failed to deposit Rs 15,000 for securing a seat in IIT-BHU due to poverty and father's poor health.
