“My relationship with Virat Kohli is between the two of us and not for TRP,” Gambhir said during the press conference.

Digital Desk: Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed a press conference on Monday (July 22) where he discussed his relationship with star India batter Virat Kohli, emphasizing that their bond "is a private matter between the two of us, not something for public attention."

The occasional disagreements between Gambhir and Virat Kohli have often been widely discussed, but it appears both have chosen to focus on the future and are least concerned about their past rivalry. Notably, Gambhir and Kohli are set to collaborate closely during the upcoming T20 and ODI tour of Sri Lanka, beginning on July 27.

“My relationship with Virat Kohli is between the two of us and not for TRP,” Gambhir said during the press conference.

Referring to Kohli, Gambhir added, "We have had numerous discussions, and every player has the right to fight for their spot in the team. Currently, we are representing India and its 1.4 billion people. Off the field, we share an excellent relationship. But it’s not for the public. The number of conversations I've had with him during or after games is not important. He is a thorough professional, a world-class athlete, and I hope he continues in that manner."

Gambhir also noted that with Rohit Sharma and Kohli retiring from T20Is, there will be an increased workload for senior players like Jasprit Bumrah.

"Managing workload is crucial, especially for someone like Jasprit Bumrah," Gambhir remarked. "Now that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will focus on two formats, I expect them to be available for most matches."
