Digital Desk: In a major shift in paradigm for Bhutan, a traditional and conservative country is all set to send Tashi Choden Chombal, who is a proud lesbian, to the Miss Universe 2022 pageant.
The 23-year-old was crowned Miss Bhutan 2022 and is now preparing to represent her country on a worldwide stage.
Chombal was born in Nagaland to a Tibetan Khampa father and a Bhutanese mother, Kinley Wangma, from the Shaa district of Bhutan.
She was born and lived in Nagaland till she was three years old.
Tashi has always been proud of her sexuality, and she was one of the first individuals in Bhutan to talk openly about it.
According to reports, Tashi talking about her sexuality said, "Initially, I came out as a bisexual person on my Facebook account, but as I did more research and reading, I realised that I am a woman comfortable in my body, and attracted to other women."
She further said that her family is highly conservative and that her mother and grandmother's reactions were quite frightening.
She added that her only problem was coming out to her own family, which she did on June 2, 2021, on International Pride Day.
