  • The agreement is expected to unlock economic potential along the Assam-Nagaland border, officials said
  • Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio termed the signing of the tripartite MoU a historic milestone

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed his gratitude to the Central Government for its commitment to peace, stability, and development in the Northeast, which he believes made the signing of the tripartite MoU for mineral oil operations in the Assam-Nagaland boundary areas possible. He also thanked Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Government of Assam for their cooperation and goodwill.

According to Mr Rio, the MoU reflects the maturity of relations between Nagaland and Assam and their shared commitment to regional development. He noted that unresolved border issues had hindered resource development for decades, but the MoU provides a framework that will benefit both present and future generations. The agreement is expected to unlock the economic potential of sectors along the Assam-Nagaland border, enhancing economic activity, resource management, inter-state cooperation, and creating new opportunities for the people.

The Chief Minister added that the MoU marks a new era of brotherhood, collaboration, and shared development between the two states. With this agreement in place, both Assam and Nagaland are poised to reap the benefits of increased economic activity and cooperation, reports suggest.
