Digital Desk: In a tragic incident, as many as six coal mine workers from Assam died at a colliery in the border town of Merapani in Nagaland, reports emerged on Thursday.
Six workers were trapped in the coal mine during mining operations when a landslide occurred, killing them. Four other laborers were also injured in the same incident, to varying extents, and their condition has been announced as critical.
The identities of three labourers out of the six deceased were established, Majibur Ali, Kamal Chetry, and Bishal Thapa.
According to reports, the six fatalities were all residents of Sonapur, which is located in Sarupathar in the Golaghat district of Assam's Dhansiri subdivision.
The tragic tragedy occurred in the coal mine located near Risayan, Nagaland. Over ten laborers were reportedly employed by the coal mine.
The four injured laborers were sent immediately to a hospital in Nagaland's Dimapur.
It should be mentioned that Merapani is a town in Assam and Nagaland as well as a subdivision of the Golaghat district. The Wokha district of Nagaland contains half of Merapani, while Golaghat has the other half.
