Mon/Kohima: Security forces had to resort to firing to disperse protesters who had stormed into the Assam Rifles camp on Sunday in which one protester lost his life. More than 500 protesters stormed into the Assam Rifles camp in Mon district yesterday, setting fire to a part of the camp even as security forces tries to disperse off the angry mob following the firing incident in which at least 14 civilians were killed in an area between Tiru and Oting in Mon district of Nagaland.

Following a ban on internet services and bulk SMS< the district administration also imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in Mon.

To facilitate free and fair investigation of the case and looking at the complexity of the case, which may involve investigation in multiple jurisdictions beyond the district, it has been decided to transfer the investigation of the matter to the State Crime Police Station (SCPS). The probe will be taken up by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The SIT will comprise Limasunup Jamir, IPC(R), CIO; Roopa M, DIG (CID), Monoj Kumar, SP (Crime); Kilang Walling, SP and Relo Aye, Deputy Commandent, 15 NAP IR. The team will conduct an investigation under the overall supervision of Sandep M Tamgadge, ADGP, Law and Order.

According to the order, “The SIT may co-opt any other members of the police department into the team as deemed fit.”
