On May 21, following the death of a villager in police custody, an enraged mob attacked two on-duty police officers and set fire to the police station.

Digital Desk: The Nagaon Police in Assam has filed a charge sheet over the Batadrava police station burning incident.

Nagaon SP, Leena Doley made this announcement during a press conference on Saturday.

There are 23 people listed on the charging sheet as suspects in the arson.

The SP reported that 13 suspects are still at large while nine have been apprehended.

"We have disputed the fast-track court's decision to start the trial process, Doley added. The purported jehadi connections to the incident are also the subject of an investigation. A few of the people detained are connected to various crimes, Doley added.

It may be mentioned that a massive furore erupted with people questioning the role of police in the death of one person in custody. Violence also broke out with reported injuries on both sides.
